I'm
Florabelle the Clown and one of the new kids on the COAl Board.
Who am I? I'm originally from New Jersey, and I moved to sunny Florida about 6
years ago, though I still go back north to Pennsylvania during the summer
months. In my real life I am a Speech Pathologist, working primarily in Nursing
Homes and Rehabilitation Centers. I am planning to continue in both Clowning and
Speech Pathology as long as I can still "speak" and "move"!
My initiation into the world of Clowning came about 15 years ago when a local
New Jersey RSVP, (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) chapter offered clown
training classes. I got hooked, just like many of you, and Florabelle was
created. By attending various clown conventions, I learned from some of the very
best in our clown family, and my skills and character slowly developed. For
about 10 years I was one of the primary officers in a clown group of about 40,
not affiliated with any national organization, and eventually five of the
original group founded WCA alley #327, "Call Us Clowns", which was chosen as WCA
alley of the year in 2006.
In December of 2006, I formed a new COAl alley #387, "Clowns on Call" made up
primarily of clowns I have personally trained in various education classes here
in Boca Raton. This alley is totally committed to volunteer and community
service, and is my vision of how to encourage new interest and increase
membership in COAl.
I have been training "Jr. Joeys" for over 5 years, both in Florida and in summer
camps in P A. This has given me tremendous pleasure, especially when you see the
utter joy and satisfaction on the faces of the kids when they bring a smile to
those who need it most. Clowns really are wondrous creatures! ! !
Looking forward to the next two years. |
